Health-related myths are difficult to shift, even in the minds of physicians.
For many years now there continues to be this myth on the market that testosterone replacement therapy was somehow harmful as it caused or perhaps at minimum prompted prostate cancer. There was never any evidence to support this myth by the way. However, did that matter? Not at all. Testosterone encourages prostate cancer and let that be an end to it.
Here's where the confusion arose I think: Testosterone suppression is an established treatment for prostate cancer that has spread outside the prostate capsule. This utilized to be attained by castration. Today drugs do exactly the same thing. Testosterone suppression brings about several of these cancers to reduce in size for a year or 2 however , they recur.
Therefore there's the cause of this myth. If the suppression of testosterone can reduce prostate tumor then logically additional testosterone can make them grow. Right? No, wrong. And so we used to argue. Prostate cancer is not an ailment of young males with high levels of testosterone. It is predominately an illness of older males whose testosterone levels will be in decline. Hence, if anything at all, testosterone is appropriate against cancer.
Now we know that what we suspected all along is in fact scientifically proven. Testosterone Replacement Therapy does not improve the danger of prostate cancer by one iota. Because of the job of two Harvard researchers Dr Abraham Morgentaler and Dr Emani Rhoden this particular misconception has, at lone last, been exposed as being just that - a myth. In reality, if anything, the problem now appears to be that if a male is discovered to have a very low testosterone level the odds of his of getting prostate cancer are improved.
It is too soon yet to say if offering testosterone replacement therapy affords a man a bit of protection against developing prostate cancer. That might yet be demonstrated to be the case. But certainly now we know that TRT isn't dangerous doesn't "flame the fires" of already existing prostate cancer.
In a way it's sad Navigate to this site think that perhaps millions of older males have long been committed to experience the consequences of chronic degenerative disease as osteoporosis, Alzheimer's disease, arteriosclerosis, erectile dysfunction as well as decreased levels of energy all because a healthcare myth obtained in the way of them staying correctly managed. All these conditions can be ameliorated with easy TRT. Of course, for the rest of us there could still be time to catch up.
